This assignment taught me more in depth skills in regards to PowerPoint. Before this assignment I had never used the interactive tools that were included in this system, but I definitely have a better understanding now. I liked this assignment because it was easy to understand the tools in PowerPoint while still creating a complex and interactive system for my "students". This assignment was also more enjoyable because I had more leeway when it came to the subject - I could choose my topic and how I wanted my PowerPoint to look.
As a teacher, I could use Data Collection tools in the classroom all the time. This would be useful when I am putting in grades and need to see the statistics of certain assignments; for instance if I need to determine the students who need help with certain topics, which students consistently score the highest, etc. Data Collection tools would be useful for any grade or subject, but one instance that it would be helpful is in elementary English class. Data collection would help me, as a teacher, decide which of my fourth graders is reading on level, who is advanced, and who is struggling. Statistics will help me determine who needs extra assistance and who can move up a reading level.
After reviewing my classmates' blogs, the most interesting topic that I saw were the different tools that are available on the Internet. I have been using the Internet for as long as I can remember, but there are still so many tools and websites that I have not heard of and possibly never will. Looking through my peers' blogs opened my eyes to multiple new websites that are not only prevalent to educators, but to students as well. These websites have helped me so far in this class, but I think that they will help me in future courses as well.
One technology skill that I am still trying to master is Excel. Even though we've gone over Excel in class, I would still like to become a better user. I have always been a slow learner when it comes to technology and I have never quite 'gotten the hang' of Excel. Excel is used in so many classes and crucial in so many projects that I feel that it is a necessary tool for me to master. After reviewing this software in class I now know the basics of Excel, but in the future I would still like to better understand most if not all of the functions and tools that Excel has to offer.
In order to achieve my future educational technology goal of mastering Excel, there is only one thing to do and that is to practice working on this software. Beyond Excel, I cannot think of any specific education technology goals that I have. I do not plan on becoming a teacher or educator in any way, so my education goals would be limited to what I would like to achieve while I am still a student. My obvious goal is to succeed academically while I am in school and technology will be a crucial element to that success. I will constantly be learning new ways to adapt to technology and use new tools in my academic life, so another goal would be to adapt successfully as technology changes.

"The Flipped Classroom" is a classroom model in which the teaching process is reversed - students learn independently at home and then practice what they've learned once they've returned to school. Students watch videos and lectures when they are at home before class, and then once they get to class they participate in activities and fill out worksheets with their peers and teacher in order to review what they have previously learned on their own. "The Flipped Classroom" model focuses on students learning on their own and focusing on what the individual can learn on their own. There is no set system for this model other than the student learning the lesson on their own prior to the classroom going over it together.
http://flippedlearning.org/domain/36       An interesting web resource to assist teachers in professional development is TeacherVision. This site has plenty of tools that educators can use for teaching students a multitude of different subjects. The site includes lesson plans, class idea for different holidays or events, and many activities and worksheets.
TeacherVision is a great tool for teachers to use because it breaks down activities through different filters. Educators can choose by grade, subject, themes, and types so that it is easy for them to find the perfect lesson or activity for their class. Within these filters are more filters so that teacher will always have an easy time finding relevant resources.
This assignment taught me skills for creating elaborate PowerPoints in order to better teach my class. I liked this assignment because it was a good refresher in PowerPoint which I feel will be a crucial tool for future lessons. The only part of the assignment that I did not like was the number of slides required because I had to stretch information pretty thin in order to meet the requirement.

The technology advancement that I feel will be most crucial to future education is 3D printing. 3D printing will be helpful in classrooms because it can replicate learning tools that we do not have access to now such as replicas of organs, molecules, fossils, etc. Having 3D models will allows students to better understand and visualize the topic that they are studying. 3D printing would also be a great tool in art education because students can see replicas of other art pieces as well as seeing their own projects come to life in a physical form.
One piece of technology that I believe will become big in future education is the flexible display feature. Smartphones are beginning to work on flexible display for some products but it has not truly hit the mainstream yet. I believe that flexible display will become big in classrooms because they are built to be more durable than regular screens which is good when working with young children. Also, flexible display note-taking may become big because it saves on paper and is super lightweight.

Within the digital divide, I am definitely on the side that has consistent access to technology. I have my own laptop, smartphone, and tablet and if anything breaks, I have easy access to public computers at the library as well. I use technology every single day both in the academic setting and personally. The divide will affect my classroom because I will have students who are very fluent in technology and have easy access to computers and other tools; but I will also have students who do not have that kind of consistent access and will not be as well versed in technology or Internet usage. I will address the divide by teaching technology in the classroom, allowing the students who are not as technical to catch up. I will try to avoid assigning take home work that involves a computer, but when I do, I will allow time in class or in a computer lab to work on it.

PowerPoint is a great tool that many teachers use on a daily basis in order to assist lesson plans and teach students new information. PowerPoint is a good tool to use when teaching according to Bloom's Taxonomy because it would be the most efficient way to convey multiple levels of understanding. For example, when teaching students about a book, the first focus could be on the basic plot and characters. Asking students questions like 'which character said what' would satisfy the remembering level of the taxonomy. The understanding level could be satisfied by the next slide asking questions about the students' opinion on the symbolism found in the book or their interpretation on the characters' interactions. The applying level would be satisfied by the next slide asking students to apply their outside knowledge to what they read about it in the book. A good question to ask would be, "how can you relate one of your own personal struggles to that of the main character?" The next slide in the PowerPoint would focus on analyzing the book. Students would be asked to analyze plot devices and development in order to better understand how the events in the book all related to one another to develop a coherent story. The next slide would evaluate the book. Was the book accurate in its facts? Was it historically accurate? Evaluate the time and setting when the book was published; how would it effect the story's initial introduction to the public? The last level of Bloom's Taxonomy is creating - students would be asked to create an alternative ending to the book in accordance to how they think the characters should have reacted.
Adaptive technology is specially made for students who need extra assistance in the classroom. Adaptive technology helps students who may be blind or deaf by catering to their needs and allowing them to complete tasks. Some examples of adaptive technology are screen magnifiers that assist people with low vision, a digital photo and reading device that takes a picture of a text and will then read it out loud to those who are blind. the fews cons that I can think of when it comes to having adaptive technology in the classroom is that its very costly and many schools do not have enough funding for necessary equipment. Teachers would also have to be trained on how to use the complicated technology which would take time away from them being in the classroom.
Working the web design assignment taught me design skills. I had never made a website before this assignment but this assignment taught me how easy it can be with the right tools. Weebly made this project easy since it had easy-to-use layouts and tools that allowed me to design a professional looking web page. I liked this assignment since it was more fun than the usual project and it did not take up too much time. These skills I learned can be used in my future career because I now know how to design a webpage and that can come in handy.

The school web pages that I checked out mostly included the same information. The school home page contained information on school wide events such as midterms, homecoming, athletic events, etc. The homepages also included links to school board sites, county information, and national links. Individual teacher sites contained calendars for homework, tests, and assignments that were specific to that class. Teachers also provided links to extra sources that would help their students with certain topics in that class. The school that I used was Bartram Trail High School in St. Johns County, Florida - my former high school.
Technology is a crucial aspect in both my personal and (future) professional life. Technology makes easy, every day tasks even easier. Whether it's using Google to research a paper or simply look up movie times, technology makes life more efficient. Technology in the classroom is crucial for both research, but also for printing homework and tests. Microsoft Word makes creating assignments easier than if they were being created by hand. Chapter 7 also discussed electronic spreadsheets being a great tool for teachers to use in the classroom because it made tasks like charting and creating spreadsheets even better.
The Web Resource Evaluation assignment helped me look at webpages with a new eye and a new appreciation. I go on websites every single day but I've never truly stopped to think about the authority or creation of these sites. This assignment helped me to realize that not all websites are created equally, some may be pretty but are not accurate and some may be accurate but are not pretty. Users need to find sites that appeal both aesthetically and factually. I thought that this assignment was a little more difficult to understand, just because the instructions were a little vague, which caused me to read through them many, many times. The website PBworks was also new to me so it took me a little time to truly learn how to utilize it.

Web 2.0 tools that are extremely useful in the classroom include blogging sites, Twitter, and YouTube. Blogging sites allow teachers to have quick communication with all students at once, and also allow the students to send feedback right back to the teacher. Twitter allows instant communication between teachers and students as well. Twitter would be more useful for quick updates or reminders, while blogging would be used more for homework assignments and other extensive communication that would require more than 140 characters. Equipment that is necessary to use for computer education would be keyboards, a monitor, and a mouse.A useful piece of periphery equipment would a digital camera or a video camera. These tools would help students write blogs on current events, daily journals, science projects, etc. The most useful periphery tools, I believe, are tools that assist in the class room, such as speakers or projectors. These tools help create an all around learning experience in the classroom and allow students to better understand the lesson at hand.
One Web 2.0 tool that would be useful in class would be the website Storybird. Storybird allows students to write and publish their own stories online. Students can share these stories with their fellow classmates, their teacher, and their family. Storybird encourages students' writing capabilities in a fun environment that makes them seem like "real writers" because they get to publish their story on the web.
Storybird is a fun and safe tool to use for students because teachers can easily watch their students' progress. Parents can also monitor their children's work from any computer if they have the log in access. So they can watch their child's writing abilities progress, as well as watch the child's online safety and Internet habits.  http://storybird.com/
From the concept map assignment I learned that creating a map is not easy. Not only is it difficult to actually figure out the tools and website necessary to physically construct the concept map, but it also requires thinking ahead and mental planning. Concept maps show how all the information is connected and the causes and effects of one piece of information on another. This requires the creator of the concept map to have to fully understand what causes what in order to make a legitimate concept map that could be helpful to others.

I support the use of Internet research in the classroom. Students can use the internet to search for nearly any topic and have easy assistance for tough or complicated topics. The Internet is full of academic sources that can be used for projects, papers, and many other assignments that students will encounter. The downside to having unlimited access to the Internet and all that it has to offer would be that students may become too dependent on the Internet. Students may stop truly thinking or trying when it comes to assignments because they know that they'll be able to look up the topic and get instant help. Students may also simply cheat and copy the information they find online without giving credit or critically thinking about the assignment at hand.
I have used the Internet for homework and school work for as long as I can remember. The Internet makes research easier, but I always had to remember to look for credible sources. We've been told for our whole academic career that Wikipedia was not a reliable source, which forced us to continue our online hunt for credible sources that we would be able to cite. In high school I could simply use online sources as long as they were real, accurate, and able to be cited; but now in college I mainly only use sources that can be found through FSU'S online databases.
The Web Hunt helped me learn how to better narrow my searches so that it will narrow my results to what I'm actually looking for, rather than all the irrelevant data. Not only do I now know what to actually type into the search bar, but now I am better at finding legitimate sites based on their ending (.com, .org, etc.) and the aesthetic of the page.

Web Hunt: - Find free websites for students to publish their own short stories
                   - Ask students to find primary source newspaper articles from the day they were born

In class we learned how to spot the difference between reliable sources and unreliable sources. Many websites cannot be trusted for their information because anyone with access to the Internet could upload whatever they wanted. Other sites may simply look unreliable due to bad formatting, if it looks "sketchy", we may avoid using it. One such site would be the GoogleGuide website. ( http://googleguide.com/advanced_operators_reference.html ). At first glance this website does not seem like one that you would want to use for reliable information due to its out of date look.
I think that a great resource that was discussed in chapter 9 to use in a classroom would be blogging. Blogging would be a great educational tool for students of all ages. Elementary students could use blogging for stories and daily journals to help teach them writing skills; while older students could use blogging for essays or even lab reports. Class blogs would allow everyone to see their peers' work for better help and understanding on assignments.
The newsletter assignment helped me to solidify my understanding of Microsoft Word. There are many intricacies to using Word and multiple tips that help papers and projects look more professional, such as the column or header feature. I liked this assignment because I discovered more of the more "fun" aspects of Word, like the border and word art features.

I have used MS Word more times in my life than I could possibly count. MS Word is what I write all my papers and essays on and I love using it because it is so easy to use. MS Word allows easy editing -  you can just log back in and change whatever you had written which is a great tool when revising and editing homework. My teachers have used MS Word when writing out tests, syllabi, and homework. MS Word is a great tool for projects as well as papers. It is easy to create well-organized charts, surveys, etc. in MS Word for any projects that may be needed.
Throughout my educational career, I have dealt with copyright issues plenty of times. When writing a research paper, I always had to be careful when citing my sources and fact checking my bibliography. Giving credit to a source's owner is important when writing a paper or doing any project because that is their intellectual property and they deserve credit for their work. It is also important to make sure that you don't copy material word for word because that is plagiarizing and it is illegal; you must always be sure to summarize or paraphrase, never plagiarize. As a teacher I would encourage my students to look into outside resources beyond what I make available to them in the classroom. But I would make sure that they understand the importance of checking copyright and fair use, as well as citing the sources that they do end up using. That way, not only would they be using legitimate sources, but they would be using sources that is legal for them to utilize.
Twitter allows instant communication between student and teacher and I think that it is a great tool to have when you're an educator. Twitter is not the only form of social media that can be adapted into an educational environment though. There are plenty of education focused social media sites, such as Edmodo. Edmodo allows online communication between teachers and students and is an easy platform for submitting assignments, posting homework, and taking quizzes. Social media can be adapted to nearly any lesson plan and allows students to have a teacher's help, even once home from school. If I were a teacher, I would use social media because it would be more efficient both in and out of the classroom and it also provides a learning platform that can appeal to kids more effectively than the traditional classroom setting.

Computers are an important part of today's education because technology has become so integral in daily life that it is a necessary tool to teach students. Not only should students be taught how to use the computer itself, but they should also be taught how to utilize the computer for various subjects and daily life. Standards set by organizations such as the AECT, ISTE, P21, among others, are on the right path because they make sure that teachers are up to date on new technology and knowledge on how best to educate their students on computer usage. These standards allow students to comprehend new software as it comes out, which helps them to adapt to the ever evolving world of technology. I agree that teachers should stay updated on new technology and the standards that come with it. Teachers must know what they're talking about if they want to lead students in the way of education and technology.
Computers are great tools for the classroom. I would want to use them in my classroom for researching topics related to the lesson plan and working on online assignments and projects. Social media, to an extent, is a great tool for learning as well. I don't believe that younger children should have social media accounts at all, let alone for school. I would only use social media if I were a high school teacher because high school students are more mature and adept at using social media. Twitter is a great tool to use because it allows for instant access and communication between student and teacher. Twitter allows students to ask questions once they've left classroom and allows the teacher to provide links to additional links to further interest students in the topics that they are learning about. This class will teach me about how to best integrate technology into a smooth, efficient classroom environment that will help each individual student learn the best they can.
I agree that the term 'digital native' is accurate in regards to the current generation, myself included. I have always used technology in both my daily life as well as in school. Technology use is easier for me than it is for my parents and teachers because I have grown up on using it, while they have learned it later in their life. Technology is more crucial in the life of a digital native than it is to the digital immigrant. Digital immigrants are more likely to limit technology use to work or school settings, while natives will use it in all aspects of their schedule. There will definitely be differences between myself and my future students when it comes to technology. Technology is always evolving and I will soon not be able to comprehend the new systems as easily as I do now. My students will be better able to understand future systems because that is what they are used to.

I use technology daily through the use of my laptop, smartphone, and tablet. Technology is an important part of my life because it assists me not only with school work, but day to day activities as well. The use of the internet helps me to study and research for school projects; while Microsoft Word plays an important part in converting my information into projects and documents. My phone assists me daily on smaller issues, such as when I have to quickly look up movie times or find directions in order to go somewhere. I use my tablet for recreational use when I simply want to watch television online or use the internet recreationally.
I enrolled in this class because I hope to better understand computers once the semester has finished. Computers are an important part of daily life and I would like to be independent when it comes to using them. To understand the computer better also means to be more efficient. I will be able to save time when I am working because I will no longer have to guess about functions or look up how to do something when I am working. Not only will I be able to use computers better, but I will have a better understanding of the internet and social media and how I can utilize them for myself both personally and professionally.
I learned that I have an active learning style, which means that I learn better by doing, rather than discussing. To fully understand a concept, I have to go through the motions before I can grasp the idea. I am also an intuitive learner, which shows that I comprehend abstract thoughts and theories better than straight-forward formulas or equations. Intuitive learners quickly get bored with repetition and mundane explanation. I also fell under the category of visual learning, which I already knew about myself. I have always learned best by seeing diagrams, pictures, examples, etc. Seeing the topic helps me to understand it faster and more completely than only reading or discussing it. I was categorized as either moderate or well balanced on each learning style scale except for visual learning. I scored an 11 on the visual learning scale which shows my strong preference for visuals. My last learning style was sequential; this means that I must learn concepts step by step before I can understand the "big picture." I cannot quickly understand a whole theme or theory, but I must go at it in steps.
